Our key aim is to banish stereotypical ideas of disability through caring for each other and equality of participation.
Dates for the next few weeks are as follows:-
What is the Youth Action Group?
The Youth Action Group is made up of youngsters aged 8-18, who’s aim it is to help others in our local community. The Youth Action Group achieve this in a number of ways, one of which being a Saturday morning buddy club. The aim of this club is to encourage the integration of able and disabled teenagers working on a number of activities together on an equal basis. The buddy’s are made up mostly of students from Cheadle High School (although we do have buddy's from other primary and secondary schools in the area) and whilst working as a buddy the youngsters gain qualifications in a wide variety of topics with the help of training provided by local bodies.
We feel the disabled club is necessary in helping to break down prejudice amongst young people, and show that able and disabled people can work together on an equal basis. The club also provides a safe and appropriately staffed working environment for disabled youngsters to develop and learn new skills.
Our latest project has been the setting up of a Saturday Morning Buddy Club at Cheadle High School which integrates able bodied and disabled youngsters through shared participation in a wide range of activities, some of these activities are vocational and some recreational,A ‘buddies’ system linking an able bodied and disabled youngster has been incorporated into all activities. Each pair works on an equal basis sharing each others problems and successes. Ninety Cheadle High School pupils have already followed training courses with more planned this year.We view such activities as being beneficial in breaking down prejudice and improving our local society. Our teenagers will also learn skills which will enhance their lives. All activities are staffed by qualified experts and care staff are present to cater for the needs of all the participating youngsters.
Our key aim is to banish stereotypical ideas of disability through caring for each other and equality of participation.
